The History of the Doodle
What exactly is a doodle? A doodle is created by crossing a poodle and another dog breed or breeding two of the same types of doodles together. The goal of doodles is to retain the intelligence and hypoallergenic traits of the poodle while adding positive qualities from other breeds such as the loving personality of the golden retriever or the trainability of the labrador retriever.
Some of the most popular doodle breeds are golden doodles, labradoodles and bernedoodles. Some other doodles include the sheepadoodle, aussiedoodle, schnoodle, and many more. The very first doodle bred was a golden doodle in the 1960s by Monica Dickens, the great-granddaughter of the famous author Charles Dickens. Although the breed didn’t become popular until the 1990s.
As time went by doodles became a high-demand dog for people who needed a hypoallergenic dog which was great because most doodles have wavy or curly hair that sheds less than their non-poodle parent, although that doesn’t mean they don’t still shed. They can come in a variety of colors, such as black, light tan, apricot, and their size depend on the parents as well. Doodles can range from small 15lbs dogs and can even get up to 80lbs! while their size may vary, their loving personality will always outshine anything and if you choose to bring a doodle into your home, you’ll get a fun, loving companion who will offer lots of snuggles and kisses for years to come!
